Environmental Review Committee (ERC)
The Environmental Review Committee (ERC) consists of Los Angeles County professionals that review the content of material prepared on environmental impacts related to development projects. The ERC reviews the environmental material at different stages for proposed projects, all of which have been determined by the County to require an Environmental Impact Report (EIR). ERC is also available to hear the appeal of applicants who have been issued an Initial Study Determination for an EIR by the County. The ERC is convened when necessary by the ERC Coordinator of the Department of Regional Planning, and is Co-chaired by the County Counsel’s Office designated Counselor. Decisions made by the ERC are made on a consensus basis, not majority rules. Although ERC will primarily discuss private land use documents, it is also available to discuss County project EIR reviews and those prepared by other agencies/jurisdictions that may present a significant impact in unincorporated County areas.
