Altadena African-American Historic Resources Survey
The Department of Regional Planning (DRP) has completed a survey of historic resources associated with Altadena’s African-American community. The project was chosen because it supports the County’s effort to create a more equitable society by identifying valuable contributions by the County’s diverse communities and because it will complete one development theme of a broader Altadena survey that DRP hopes to work on in the future.
This survey:
- Brings awareness to Altadena’s African-American history;
- Identifies African-American historic resources so that they can be potentially preserved through the County’s Historic Preservation Ordinance;
- Will inform policy for a Historic Preservation General Plan Element and/or community based plans; and
- Will contribute information for a future Countywide African-American historical context statement and perhaps survey.
