Sun Village African American Historic Resources Survey

Case Description / Summary

On June 30, 2021, The Department of Regional Planning (DRP) completed a survey of historic resources associated with the African American community in Sun Village. This project supports the County’s multi-faceted efforts to form a more equitable society by identifying valuable cultural, historic and social contributions of the County’s diverse communities.

This survey:

  • Identifies historic resources associated with African Americans in the community which could be potentially preserved through the County’s Historic Preservation Ordinance;
  • Brings awareness to African American history and African American historical contributions in Sun Village;
  • Informs policy for applicable land use regulations and community planning projects;
  • Contributes information for a potential Countywide African American historical context statement and survey;
  • Informs an effort to establish a Sun Village Community Standards District boundary.
