Event Summary / Additional Information

Five members of the Youth Planning Committee met to discuss ideas for student actions related to the Plan, and to set a course for ongoing student participation in the Plan Update process. Participants identified community-wide issues they feel matter most to young people, proposed actions to explore the issues, and prioritized activities for moving forward. The students had a lively discussion and came to a consensus that their priority activity for the Youth Planning Project will be a food inventory to survey restaurants and markets on recycling and food donation practices. The research will be conducted with a walking survey and, to document their work, they will create a project website. To spread the word about what they learn, the students are also interested in working with local middle schools to develop an educational program.
