As part of our outreach efforts on the Florence-Firestone Transit-Oriented District Specific Plan, planners from the project team joined five 8th grade history classes at Charles Drew Middle School to provide an overview on the specific plan project and TOD planning concepts to over 90 students. The project team went over the Florence-Firestone Transit-Oriented Planning Guide and Community Feedback Worksheets and also developed a simple survey to gather the students’ opinions on some project ideas. Through the survey responses, 31 students shared their ideas on which types of homes and businesses they would like to see in the community, and what types of mobility improvements would help them get around more easily. Based on their feedback, the students favor multi-family housing (fourplexes and duplexes), and would like more entertainment, restaurants, and traffic lights in the community. The project team recently hosted the Florence-Firestone Community Orientation Webinar on February 18, 2021, where we shared a status update on the FFTOD Specific Plan, presented draft land use concepts, and responded to various questions and concerns raised by attendees. The PowerPoint presentation, meeting recording, and meeting notes are available by looking under the “Events” tab (https://case.planning.lacounty.gov/fftod/events).
During the webinar, we also went over the Transit-Oriented Planning Guide (English, Spanish) and Community Feedback Worksheets (English, Spanish). The goal of these materials is to share information on terms commonly found in transit-oriented planning and specific plan documents and to receive community feedback on potential standards. If you would like to help us distribute printed copies of these materials, please feel free to send us a message at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), and include how many copies in English or Spanish you or your organization would like, and a location for drop-off.
Over the next few weeks, we will continue to prepare the Specific Plan and get ready for the environmental review, as we work on the following efforts:
- Further refine land use concepts and zoning standards;
- Prepare the NOP/Initial Study, which will be released for public review from March 15, 2021 to April 14, 2021. Final documents will be available in the “Documents” tab above (https://case.planning.lacounty.gov/fftod/Documents).
- Prepare for the EIR Scoping Meeting on March 25, 2021, 5:30pm– 7:00pm
- Registration: http://bit.ly/FFTODScoping
- Host online office hours between March 15 and April 14 for community members to provide feedback and ask questions.
