“Historic preservation is the process of identifying, protecting, and enhancing building, places, and objects of historical and cultural significance.” - National Trust for Historic Preservation
Historic Preservation Program
Los Angeles County’s Historic Preservation Program (“Program”) is comprised of the County’s Historic Preservation Ordinance that establishes criteria and procedures for the designation, preservation and maintenance of landmarks and historic districts; and the County’s Mills Act Historical Property Contract Program which provides property tax relief to owners of historic properties who are willing to restore and maintain their properties.
The Program applies only to properties located in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. For properties located within the City of Los Angeles, please contact the city’s Office of Historic Resources.
